THE HOUSE

A magnificent, luxurious French farmhouse

Le Mas du Figuier (“House of Figs”) is an imposing French farmhouse of approximately 6000 square feet, built beautifully in light stone, magnificently standing just below the medieval village of Vézénobres. It is surrounded by fig orchards, enjoying a delightfully private rural aspect, yet only metres from all the necessary amenities of modern life.

It is U-shaped, on three floors. In the middle is a pretty courtyard which faces east, making it, or the terrace above, the perfect spot for breakfast. On the north side is the large dining terrace area, shaded by outdoor sails, replete with an outdoor table tennis table, and next to the beautiful pool (8m x 4m), the cabana (perfect for afternoon naps or aperitifs), and finally the petanque pit on the secret upper terrace. To the west, off the main kitchen, there is the perfect sunset terrace, for evening cocktails and supper. The gardens have been exquisitely planted and maintained, providing a lush and colourful private backdrop to this authentically French setting.

You can access Le Mas on either the ground or first floor, via numerous entrances.

On the ground floor, there is a triple garage, which houses the 9-seater house VW, as well as providing extra storage. Next to that is a 2-bed self-contained gite (inc kitchenette and living area), where the house manager lives to provide all-year-round security. Completing the ground floor is a games room, for children and adults alike: there you will find a pool table and a table football, enough holiday exercise for me anyway…..A door from here leads into the substantial owners’ wine cave or cellar, a must for any French escape.

On the first floor, there are numerous living areas. One large room (45’ x 15’) houses two large (connected or separate) dining tables that seat 22 people, along with a functional kitchenette (with immediate access to the outdoors), sofa and two toilets. That leads into a TV den room (15’ x 15’), replete with sofa and giant beanbags. Through here into the large and practical utility room (15’ x 10’), opening into the fully equipped, modern main kitchen (15’ x 15’) with breakfast bar and terraces. Then you flow into another huge open plan living space (15’ x 40’), with another dining table that seats 10, as well as more sofas, desk and even a superb fire for winter evenings…… there is also another toilet here.

On the second floor, accessible via two sets off staircases from each of the large living areas, there are 7 large double (or triple!) bedrooms. 3 are en suite, with a fourth having a shower room. There is a separate family bathroom, another separate toilet, and a useful owner’s storage room. Most bedrooms have wooden beams, stone walls and beautiful aspects out to the surrounding countryside.
